I adore ruffles. The humans in the story could learn a lot about tolerance from her.

I thought about that scene when he was so dismissive of Siya. It's such a painful irony that he can't see that these girls have as little to do with their nation's politics as did his own daughter. Children are always victims of their circumstances (well, we all are, but most kids lack the agency to effect any kind of change at all; even to their bedtimes). Poor, daft, brainwashed Duane.

Duane could have been nicer. Even assuming he doesn't remember bashing her, you'd think he could put his "Crescians are EVIL" thing on the back burner for a LITTLE GIRL. I mean, little girls are his soft spot. If he can't even see Siya as a person, there really isn't any hope for him. Maybe he just needs coffee??
