I've always enjoyed the Ssaelit philosophy, even though they damage some of their credibility by turning around and calling Ssael himself "God." It makes a degree of sense - what better way to grant mankind ultimate agency than to apply the G-word to their champion - but it muddies the message a bit.
Anyway, Duane burning the dead has been a running theme since the third chapter, and this page finally lays out the thoughts behind that pretty plainly. He's granting others dignity and salvation that he can't have and probably doesn't deserve.

Duane's so young here, and full of that overzealous Born Again religious fervour that doesn't recognise its own goofiness. It cools as he ages :)

Exposition is easy. Exposition that doesn't sound like someone reading a plot summary is not easy. Exposition that naturally arises while characters are being themselves is hard. I like that you make the hard way look easy😃
