Pretty much. No one would use these mines if they could be completely overcome. Everyone's doing their best~

what if you're in the end of column? you haven't personally experienced the boom just now so your body is not high on adrenaline, sharpening your senses. I estimate the company size to be about 400-500 soldiers? With 95% attention and 5% accident that's 20-25 people accidentally stepping on a mine (also note that there's a chance for Duane&plats to miss a mine). With 80% safety that's 4-5 people blowing up. Not good enough.

Speaking from experience, when your boom specialist finds something hinky, attention is 100% and contagious. You find NEW ways to pay attention that you didn't know you had.

Is first sand that visible against the normal grit of the road? Also, wagons cannot tiptoe and statistically, if you have hundreds of soldiers passing through, there will be a lot of cases of not paying enough attention. 80% is not good enough

The First Sand -probably- disables the traps. You still wouldn't wanna step on one to see, but if anyone does they got an eighty percent chance of the trigger being so disrupted by the sand that it won't go off. First Sand is fairly expensive. They also can't be hauling whole wagon fulls of it with them to carpet their entire trek. It's not windy and everyone's gonna be skirting those marked traps pretty gingerly. Should be fine~~

So they are not actually disabling them, just sprinkling first sand over them? Then the only reason not to just sprinkle *all* the road with the first sand (and not need the wright at all) would be that first sand is expensive, so they're only using a little on each trap? But then what if that little amount of first sand is swept away from the trap by the marching army?
