Lemuel and Duane spent their boyhoods admiring the glittering paladins of God and the less glittering ugly hides of their vliegeng transports. Lem's always wanted to either be a knight or a vliegeng rider. And maybe the latter is the better deal if it keeps you off landmine ridden roads, and frees you up to fly long hours away from the horror of men killing each other.

Yeah, vliegeng are for menfolk only. Since this is an older post and no one will see this: You know, the nice thing about Alderode is that it's so horrible it presents a perfect opportunity for a revolt and some extensive social reform. And that's certainly my plan :)
Could Duane's daughter have become a flier, or is that another thing that is just for menfolk in Aderode? I'm sure I already know the answer, but she seemed to have the same affinity for Vliegeng her uncle does, so I wonder if exceptions could be made. (Another too-late question, I expect. Alas. But I really like to save up a cluster of pages and then read them all at once...)
