I had to really pare down the reunion which was three pages in the script, but it felt ridiculous when poor Will is slowly dying in Duane's arms :U
But that leaves a fair amount to inference. We can only imagine how the older Soud soldier there wisely redirected the kids' rage underground, how they hunted out Claggart and company in their search for Roger, and how that rescue went.
Next update we'll jump ahead twelve hours or so for the last scene of the chapter. There are just a few unaddressed matters remaining~

Yeah, Alderode is probably the worst of all Kasslyne's countries in which to be gay or any flavour of queer. They react savagely to any perceived threats to their patriarchal status quo. With that said, since there's no religious argument against it, it's fairly well tolerated socially as long as a person has taken an opposite sex partner and is raising a family. Homosexual dalliances are seen as vices, but no worse than gambling, heavy drinking, and are in fact considered less of a "moral failing" than an outright heterosexual affair. Alderode's weird!
Oh, Magnus!! Precocious little puppy! So much love for these kids, and for Duane's tears of relief and joy. And, I'll say it again: poor Roger. What a raw deal he's gotten in all of this. His life can't have been easy from the start. I'm assuming Alderode doesn't have much tolerance for homosexuality. Would that be an incorrect assumption? Most societies with a lot of misogyny also have heaping helpings of homophobia--two sides of the same coin.
