Inak are raised communally and they don't typically know or care exactly who their mother or father is. All females of the next generation up are "aunties," all males are "uncles," and all other inak in their age range and family are brothers, sisters, or cousins.
Ruffles doesn't hang out with her older cousins here much, finding them way too irritable and ranty. But it's hard to blame them. Inak their age should have left the family by now and gone off on their own. Instead they're stuck here restless, unable to hunt or wander or look for mates in other families. Does bad things for a male inak's mindset.

Yep! His nickname "Masek" is actually how lizards say the human word "Mask," similar to Ruffles' nickname.
