People ask me all the time if Elka is a self-insert and she's NOT - but she does share a habit I have of using humour and goofiness to cheer people up. She tried it here by trying to joke about her scar, not realising that's a sore point with the Captain, who feels directly responsible for absolutely all of this. She'll fix this though. She has a secret weapon! A secret weapon that her addled brain feels is really powerful and not all inappropriate to bring up right at this exact moment!

When it comes to Elka and Toma, I'm still not sure if they'll end the story as a couple. I almost like them too much as friends to do that to them. But I think as long as they're together in some capacity - professional, platonic, or romantic - that will be enough :)
You made me cry. Not that this is especially hard these days, but they were nice tears rather than scared sad ones, and that IS special. I know every story shouldn't end with a love connection, but I have to admit, I'm pulling hard for one with these two. It already feels more than earned.
