Yeah, that was some misdirection on my part. I wanted you to think the waterwomen had been nabbed for experimentation - and that was initially true - but the storm keeping out dangerous elements is the reality. The true threat is at the gate, and Minnow is about to wrench that gate open.

Duane is conspicuously absent. He's been allowed to fade into the background a bit in the previous pages. I have a feeling he might very well barge back in after he’s unilaterally decided to do something… Also, guess it was “only” First Water Harvesting Experiments that didn’t pan out progressing to using the Horrible Screams of Torture for decoy & camouflage (waste not, want not…), and not a different kind of second experiment of which the screams were only a byproduct. Huh.
