I feel like Duane figured out that Nary is and was a jerk to her, and that she's full of fakery, long ago -- kinda hard to miss, no? -- but he seems unable to figure out if he can or should do anything about it.

It's pretty hard to reconcile all her bragging with what he's seeing of her lifestyle back home; the natural conclusion to draw is that she's been fulla crap the whole time. He grew up poor, he gets that lie, but it's the rest that's more disturbing. If her da is trash, why isn't she rejecting him? Why does she lie about him so much? That's both confusing and repulsive. He can't be this girl's father and the universe can piss off if that's where it's leading him.
