One of the ways I've noticed I've changed over the years is that I find Quigley a lot more sympathetic, but even so I think that they didn't do any emotional manipulation until AFTER he sought them out. They can do crazy shit but, as far as I can tell, you still have to pique their attention in the first place before they care enough to do it.

Reallllly sympathetic villainy from Prakhuta there. I love how Unsounded has such a range of "villains" - outright monsters like Starfish, Ruckmearkha and Bell, pretty sympathetic ones like Ilganyag, Prakhuta and Bastion (in the grand tradition of superhero comics, it's more their methods than their ideals that are the problem), people who aren't full of malice but whose circumstances either compel or suggest a course of action most would find heinous ( I'm mainly thinking of Quigley and Lemuel but I could list like basically 75% of the cast here.) It's just all very real, and I have to remind myself that in most of those situations I'd likely do no better (I do think I could manage to avoid turning my wife into the magic Gestapo but I don't know what the hell else Prakhuta could even do) – it's all a bit "there but for the gifts of the Twins go I," eh?
