Josh

I wasn't sure one way or the other but it seemed like he might've like, bit her to the side a bit? I don't know, I can't follow action scenes in comics very well sometimes. But this is great stuff. Poor lil criminal cousin buddies

CelebrenIthil

lol, I gotta go see now

Cherenkov

I made this into a meme on the Unsounded Discord, if you wanna see

Alex Cully

Loud, bassy raspberry tart.

Ashley

Or raspberry.

Alex Cully

Beautiful. Is a pink ghost a feeling of "bittersweet"?

Dr. Badvibes

at the end, all we can really ask for is a loving hand

CelebrenIthil

(I did buy Knock's silver had gotten hooked to somehow tether her lower down on the kaiju, and that she was running on enough glut fumes that she hadn't quite finished dying. Knowing she actually splattered, but her will did hang on to that strand of silver enough to climb back to Ana is even more hardcore. Love her and will miss her, but a fitting end.)

CelebrenIthil

In the end, Ana's last words were... a Knock Knock joke.

HandsomePenguin

*Chef's Kiss* I knew there was another foot that had to drop, and that 5th panel was perfect. Like a shot to the gut, and a perfect end for Knock. Wonderful.

Nikaleles

the panel of knock's meat all over the ground is weirdly jarring and effective. rip u always managed to end things in the most satisfying and appropriate way. i enjoy it very much

Old Coal Soul

I kneel.

fdsddfsa

jokes on you this is actually way better than the copium i was huffing

J

AaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (I'm glad they were together at the end, though)

Taerjaga

I for one am ready to see Cutter die now.

czytanie

. . . [no words]

Libby Goldberg

Tearing up over the two of them ;o;

Renee

Man, Ana did some objectively horrific things, but I hope she was able to find at least some measure of peace. That’s a difficult balance to strike in a character, and I think you pulled it off beautifully. Her complexity bounces off Knock’s whole hearted simplicity really well. It’s only right they went out together

antialiasis

Also excellent choices with Knock first getting some feats of badassery alive and then giving Sette what she needed to hear in that moment after rising up again. She dies with Ana but is also pivotal to the progression of events. The death could have felt a little anticlimactic if it was just an oops she’s dead but at least she gets to reunite with Ana, but the nudge for Sette prevents that, makes her meaningful in death even outside her own emotional storyline with Ana. It’s just very well done. Consider this acknowledgement of all the work that went into working out how to do this buildup right.

antialiasis

To be a bit more coherent: I think Knock and Ana got the perfect ending to their story at this stage. Ana is already dead, so Knock dying with her was always probably going to be the appropriate sendoff. Knock just being impressed by how Ana tore up the town, Ana realizing Knock is dead and Knock just smiling, the hug, “I’m just glad I made it home”. Home is Ana, they’re together, all is right with the world. I have so many feelings about them. Thank you, Ashley. Always shared your sentiment that often the best thing you can give to a character is a good death.

forlornfoe

Sette's command really worked at least a bit... For mere side characters these two went through an amazing arc, both being pivotal in the world-changing events.

Nate (Snowy)

Man. What a good send-off.

grim

oh no it's six am and I'm sobbing

Rainwalker

*a simplified, emotional music-box version of Whip It plays and I cry*

Srećko

Love this feeling, please stop.

antialiasis

Knock and Anaaaaaaaa I love them so much and I am crying uncontrollably (in the best possible way)

Malik M.L. Williams

I’m crying. Why am I actually, physically crying? Well done.

Cassie

:( I'm so emo :(((

Spen Cyrrh

Fall trajectory seemed a little severe for such a quick reappearance. I love a gal who knows what she's about.

Stretch Andrews

The term eucatastrophe, courtesy of Tolkien, comes to mind reading this page. Though it wasn't an avoidance of final doom, it has that feeling of a sudden turn, "giving a fleeting glimpse of Joy, Joy beyond the walls of the world, poignant as grief." Despite all of their suffering they are, at least in their final moments, together.

Duke BG

So I was right the first time. Shouldn't have doubted myself.

Mister Scarecrow

Aye. That's clinched it. Knock is my favorite character.

Quinton

I had assumed she was not going to survive that, but definitely did not catch that she was already dead.

metrocube

beautifully done Ash. hit me right in the feels

CD

WAAAW. I had no expectations for Knock's survival - she's too tightly tied to Ana, and there was no way Ana was coming back from all that - but I did not guess she was a ghost already! "I'm just glad I made it home." Thanks I am also deceased now. May your squishes glom together forever.

Ben Dennard

I had a feeling Knock wasn't making it out of this chapter. What a fine ending she had, though.

JarJar

Ahh this is a great feeling. Sad and bitterweet-- but I'm so happy about it. I feel like this is the kind of ending the comic is heading towards.

Spider

I teared up, good for them. Best girl forever.

Gally

awwwww, they were fucked from the go, poor little lovelies, but hey, there's worse ends than this out there, far worse. Knock changed like the fucking course of history, but to her i'm sure thats not the most important thing she did. yay knock!!!

codeGnave

I'm glad they got to be together at the end.

Ashley

Now they can shed all the bullshit eels and go be obnoxious pink squishes somewhere together.

Ashley

Yeah, she didn't consciously do it. I'd compare it to when Turas accidentally tangled himself in Duane's plumb line way back when, keeping his soul from completely crumbling. Knock just got a little knotted up, with a khert fire slowing the khert down anyway, and used her final minute to keep being the mook and pal she's always been.

Stephanie Aldrich

What a beautiful sendoff. I always hoped they'd get something resembling a happy ending but I couldn't imagine what that could possibly look like. But there it is😭

Judith Bradford

i was scared Anadyne would kill Knock as a final spasm of self-loathing violence-- I'm SO relieved!

GracieV

Legit crying right now. But beautifully done. Thank you for a fitting end.

Rifter

Did Knock literally use that silver whip to separate her soul from her body as she died? I'm imagining she did that all on her own purely on instinct. A badass til the end.

Madison

Knock's love for Ana, the empty silver, the fire, and most importantly- Sette's command. "Knock me down, I order ya to be not dead." Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa God god god god god Our girls in the margins made it home. My heart....
