I dunno, peace with lions would seem to be hundreds of years before Ssael was born, given that Lions were with King Rortide when they conquered Tain, and Ssael wasn't even born yet.

She's had to emotionally navigate around the circumstances of her creation, her death, her betrayal. In the same way we saw Siya explain her looming sacrifice to Matty in terms that we later saw did not match her true feelings, First Sette lies to herself and to others about it. How would she be able to have stayed with her sib otherwise? How would she have retained any of her sanity? Only now that she's discovered she can outright tear away all that trauma, does the truth come out. And perhaps maybe the trauma too, in a sec.

We only have Lady Ilganyag's word that he's alive, and no idea if he knows he has a sister at all. He could be wearing a big trench coat and running a food stand somewhere in Durlyne for all we know.

Re last line- nah, “pink with shame, at all its children do” is basically saying “the sky is blushing with shame because of all the things people do.” There shouldn’t be a comma twixt “shame, at all” though, that one’s a grammar mistake :p but I’ll let it slide ‘cause it’s a banger line ;p

The parallels in wording in this page to the book of Ssael are so tantalizing! Perhaps this flashback occurs roughly around the purge of lions by the Gefendur, after the burgeoning Ssaelit religion incorporated lions into its iconography. This tracks with (at least) 12 years after Ssael entered the khert. Did he intend for this to happen, and the peace between lions and men to be broken? Poor First!Sette. P.S. is that line in the last bubble meant to be "as all its children do" (instead of "at")?

It could be that over time Khette convinced herself that she was happy to be sacrificed in order to cope with what happened and to try and maintain some semblance of a relationship with her brother.

Interesting little cycle that's been mentioned here too. They ate the condemned, then were eaten themselves, because they were not "good enough" for lack of a better phrase. Feels like a wee nudge at the line in the book of Ssael, "Feed the lions your last sins", though I'm sure we're still far off from understanding it. But there's something seemingly quite intentional about that.
