And her expression in response to this is absolutley perfect. She sees through it truly, profoundly, deeply, immediately; to her this Duane is after all Just Another Priest, and his words do him no favors in this regard.

i really like how this page invites sympathy for duane while also showing his failings. his rejoinder to khette feels good at first. like, fuck this awful brat. but it's pretty telling that, for the zillionth time, duane falls back into Stern Patrician voice when he could have tried showing empathy. he's done this to sette time and time again. and miki. and a lot of other people. sure, khette is a walking nightmare. but also, she's sette. and she just revealed some truly horrifying things to him. unfortunately for duane, he answers that in the worst way possible. to deny her self-conception with this patriarchal line about how she (he?) is "one more Child recklessly made and hideously used" is a real vicious cut. you're not a god, you don't have power, you never did, you probably shouldn't have been born in the first place, you're just a Sweet Summer Child misled by a wicked witch. it's gonna suck to see duane's memories eviscerated. but maybe with Papa Adelier burned out of his skull, duane will finally be able to grow past some of his long-held paternalistic assumptions.

Sans the tragic context, Khette with the glowing wings and one bloody eye surfin’ through time on a dead version of herself (that she murdered) to punch a ghost straight through his face is pretty metal. Gotta give her points for style.

Yeah... there is nothing more terrfying than this kind of power. Having a dozen guns pointed at you is a less horrifying prospect than realizing someone is able to control your very thoughts and feelings so completely that you can't even question it afterwards.

It was good of Duane's arm to just sit there and not vanish into constituent pieces. I reckon I've figured how Sette F's gonna save the day, by merging with First Sette and taking over the fusion by having fewer missing bits.

It makes Duane's reflexive fear at realising what Sette was capable of a bit more sympathetic, doesn't it? To have your very Self cupped in someone else's hands, to be casually squished and squashed around into the shape they want... our Sette would never cross this particular line, though 8( I don't think even first chapter Sette would've. She craves that lure of an honest connection too deeply.

Yeah, the eel lion plugging Duane's arm back in is some much needed comic relief, like the "om nom nom" last page. "Oopsie, did his arm come off? No problemo, lion fix! *plop* There, as good as new!"

This feels like overkill. Stepping on Sette's body, whatever she's doing now-- you'd think removing her memories would make her less of a vicious brat, but she keeps getting nastier.
