Duane why are you like this 😭
Ashley
Yes, and Jac and his sister have some real History together. They're bound by their natures, but did you notice they don't seem that affectionate towards each other? In fact they were downright prickly.
Ashley
C'mon, it's Duane. He never notices anything :)

If you look closely at that First Soul, you'll see it's missing its lower half. It's got no legs or tail! Someone else might have those...

Come on, Jac! Take advantage of the distraction and check on the Settes! (Btw, we didn't really learn yet what role Jac plays in all of this. If the Sette of the twin pair carries the First Soul, what does the Jac do?)

BIG BOLD WORDS FROM THE UNCHANGING SENET 😭 I looove her Alien grade double mouth effect. Bet it sounds gnarly. God. I'm so stressed. Getting choked to death doesn't take terribly long.

Hmmm... it's hard to really give a definitive analysis on anything until Cope finishes book 1. Maybe I'll come back to this comment later?... However, based on what we've seen so far-- perhaps this physical shift in her appearance is symbolic of the revelations that both we (the audience) and she (the character) have undergone? Now that her scheme has failed and we know more about her backstory-- her old skin no longer fits her. She is not infallible. Her old persona as an unknowable god or cunning mastermind no longer suit her as well. Her motivations are much more flawed and much more human then anyone would've thought-- including herself! With Jacaranda, she seems at the cusp of actually acknowledging that, but then when confronted with Duane, she instinctively reverts to her old assumptions: that she is the authority on human nature and that people are pawns, incapable of surprising her. In a very literal way, by retreating into her skin-- she too still clings to the persona that has always defined her.

Do it :o share with the class

Having looked at your original Ilganyag sketches-- it's kinda amazing to me that her design has come full circle at the end of Book 1. In her near-defeat, she looks like a caricature of herself? Almost exactly like a woman in a bird costume. Somehow more vulnerable-looking after retreating into her shell??? The literature major in me wants to analyze the heck outta that.

I wonder if Duane noticed Jac's furtive glance towards the "scene of the crime" there? Also I love how Boo's and Jac's worried expressions mirror each other...

Have Jacaranda and otherSette ever had a falling out proportional to the one they would have if he helped our our Sette? Also Duane is going to need burn cream for that roast from Sessine haha
Ladile
50/50 on that; last we saw Our Sette looked like she was in pretty big trouble but Khette might be the one needing rescuing if Duane gets up there first!
Ashley
He and Sette share a lot of body language and trepidation; they're the same kind of person, always pulling against a core nature that is more just and fair and even-minded than they were designed to be.
The Clag
That's a pretty sick burn Lady I.
Luuuuuuu
Which Sette? One of them is his sister, the other is a stranger. Which should he rescue?
CelebrenIthil
Love the expressive body language on Jac. Especially in the last panel with the Hand of Doubt dragged against the mouth; very true to life gesture, that
Ladile
Jac needs to demonstrate that wisdom his mama was just talking about and go rescue/help rescue Sette. She just admitted two pages ago that maybe she didn't know best, so who's to say she knows best regarding Sette Frummagem?

"What's a kitty to do?" Find something on a counter to knock off, of course.

"What's a kitty to do". Stop being a pussy and open a can of harden-up. :D Odds are slim though. I've told Dangerous Dave to stop being a pussy many times, but he just looks confused and meows.

Well then, madam, tis sure t'be a bit of a fly in yer ointment t'find out that, by yer own doin's, Duane Adelier is dead, and who he were "meant to be" ain't of much account t'nyone now, eh? Shame, that.
Luuuuuuu
Just imagined a horrible future for Duane where he becomes an eternal khert babysitter to like a hundred Sette's. :C
Luuuuuuu
Don't worry Duane, there's still plenty of opportunities for you to hurt Sette! That is, if she's even still alive...
