The activation of the dammakhert marks Alderode's foundation, and the mistake/change which introduced ghosts happened a couple hundred years after that. If the DK is a retroactive consequence of the mistake then it would need to rely on eels and squishes to run, meaning it was impossible in the first version of the timeline. That would be interesting!

Man, he's not chill at all. Ilganyag and her friend took a perfectly good lion and gave it anxiety. He's only happy when he's with Sette, yet she kind of hates him, so his vibes just aren't what you'd expect from a squish-lion. But then, Sette Frummagem's vibes aren't really what you might expect from an eel-girl.

Just for contrast I'm gonna imagine his voice as a distorted twelve year old boys - lions are different but remember he's Sette's twin, so compared to a fully grown lion he's proportionally small and don't forget he's got no balls.

I definitely don't think he sounds like a human. I think he sounds like a lion trying to make human words :D Voice far too deep in his chest, lips and tongue the wrong shape, teeth in the wrong place, sinuses too deep, lungs too big. You would never mistake his voice for a human voice and you have to really concentrate to understand him. Which is one reason Duane is staring quietly, but he fortunately has some experience speaking with two-toes, who sound a little similar.
