I've been really enjoying the pacing of this scene, the humor is balanced so well to call back to the early Sette/Duane dynamic without subtracting from the intensity of the moment. (While I'd never turn down a page dump, I agree it doesn't quite need it.)

There was also a parallel earlier in the chapter - Sette and Duane warping a senet / the khert into a more hostile landscape through their interpersonal conflict! Juicy.

Remember: you don't have to agree with a character, even if they're framed as the protagonist. Protagonists can be wrong, or hold very subjective beliefs :)

Yeah, that lion noming on Duane was a throwback to the wandering root doing the same thing! But their relationship in Chapter 1 was much more... adversarial than now.

[After thinking for a bit] Sette might use that eaten eye here, either to show SF her own life (unlikely) or SF’s.

Sette might not realize it, but she's just made some serious confirmations to things Duane either didn’t yet know or might not have believed. 1.) First Sette is in one way or another the same thing as Sette, as she refers to FS's nudity as “[M]e bits”. 2.) FS was related to Sessine, she is the bird's daughter. (Ergo, Sette is related to her as well). 3.) Sette knows how to rip out memories and has been doing it to herself for a while (Duane might misconstrued this to her having been altering his memories as well). 4.) Sette believes that blood relations are unquestionable, one person is an extension of everyone else they're related to. Conversely, those you don’t share blood are inconsequential; Sette is inconsequential to Duane (and vice versa). This can sew later dilemmas, especially after the “Stay away from my family bit” from their last altercation. Duane and Sette aren’t too great at having sincere conversations with one another, Duane focuses on himself and his preaching; Sette focuses on literally anything but her problems. That said, if the two did ever have that heart to heart (post partial breakdown), they're going to have even more things to talk about now that Sette can’t easily deny it.

I would say definitely. We've seen she remembers some pretty rotten awful stuff, and there it remains, in her memory. She loves her da; loves him even when he's being cruel to her. She keeps even that, because he was at least acknowledging her.

The way Sette reacts, too, makes me wonder what kind of rules she has for herself when it comes to ripping. She's been doing it for years to craft a very certain type of identity for herself- trying to ensure she stays a proper Frummagem....
