She's quite stifled and powerless in that family dynamic, having to make nice. The second Lady I was down Khette grabbed the first soul and vaporised her brother with it
Lulululu
I'm pretty sure that when there is a set of twins, only one of them is sacrificed - the other gets to live their full life. So Jac will not be sacrificed at all, then.
Claire H
I always thought the red and black split face of Tirna was an interesting choice.
Madison
“Do it your way” “He put the flowers on for YOU” god god god god

Those would be difficult to skin per how tight the skin would be around the bone with little fat to separate the layers, plus it would all just be thin strips. I'm thinking the tails are more used similarly to how strips of hanging fabrics are on priests and holymen (like ties? Sort of? More related to their designs would leave the tails pinned to their hats like how Sette had sat atop the lion for her twelve allotted years?)

The boy twins are killed as part of Yerta's harvest, no? I imagine his time is scheduled for later in the year. From the looks of the tree in the last panel, this is early fall.. maybe around the Autumn Equinox (around the time of harvests). Or, because of the flowers, this is in the spring and Sette's death is intended to usher in the new year. Another possibility is that Yerta's feast day is on one of the solstices, as the next book is set in winter(?) and that particular solstice is a celebration of ‘We're halfway through the cold starvation and haven’t died yet, LET'S EAT!’ Whereas the Autumn Equinox is more of a ‘The final harvest of the year has come, let's celebrate it and brace for the hard times’ which feels more in lime with Sette's sacrifice? It begs the question as to what the spiderpaws take Jac's sacrifice as to mean. Sette is the abolishment of their sins and acquisition of assured nourishment (both of which are edgy just in different ways) so Jac's would be more in line of regret..? A sense of purity or resignation; sorrow and honor for those who couldn’t stand the cold? (What was the original question again?)

I don’t know why it only just occurred to me the reason for the particular form of that lion-esque conglomeration of smoke eels.
Malik M.L. Williams
Well now I’ve GOT to do that…
Luuuuuuu
Imagine how many they ended up with - hundreds. Make a whole quilt.
Ashley
If you reread their panels together now, they may come off in a very different light.
Leo Elizabeth
And then she went back to riding Jac around the Khert like none of this had happened?
Lulululu
These replies... None of you people will see the light of heaven.
Luuuuuuu
I can't help but note that if Sette F had stayed in Sharteshane or returned, her fate with Bodkin would most likely have been... much the same, no less unpleasant, and possibly even worse.
Luuuuuuu
Merch!
Luuuuuuu
Yeah it's stronger for the observant - she doesn't even *know* why they did this to her. That's heavier.
Ashley
"Why" in the script, but I ultimately left it out. I like it better as a silent page.
School of Night
Lucky talisman! Now I kind of want one too.
Luuuuuuu
It looks she tries to speak, once, at the end, there. Calling out one last time to her brother?
Dr. Badvibes
unsounded has had a lot of wild horrific shit but the third page today might be the worst (best) yet. jac's look of guilt-stricken horror. the sheer scale of khette's injuries. the indifference of the crows. khette's dying glimpse of that freaky huge bird (big birds are scary, ok? sesame street lied!). really disturbing stuff.
Dr. Badvibes
the cruelty was important to him
Dr. Badvibes
she'll never hog the x-box again >:)
Capsandnumbers
If you can't get organic Woods Twinflesh, shrine-bought is fine
Capsandnumbers
It's getting pinned to Jacaranda like Eeyore
Rob N
And the realistic depiction of Sette's face on the third page (as opposed to the usual cartoonish one) makes it hit even harder...
Spider
Its a delicacy.
L Anon
...why rip off the tail?
JarJar
Ahh that makes sense!-- This was the beginning of the modern twin sacrifices after all. Only the Tirna, the younger has to die.
Ashley
No, he didn't kill himself. He had to live on in loneliness and guilt, the sad child god of the forest. Jacaranda meets a different end.
Ladile
So Khette loses her life and Jac loses his innocence. I wonder if his end is meant to come at his own hands, then?
Ashley
We haven't heard Jac's side of the story yet though! Maybe his sister really pissed him off.
Ashley
No way! Sette's Batman! Duane can be Robin. The little turd Robin that got beat to death with the crowbar.
CD
Oh god. And he's wearing them. He put on the flowers for yooooou [face in hands]
Manic Raven
Ok so Duane’s Batman now, so the Magnificent Self-actualizing Sette can be his Robin stand-in
The Clag
We know what you did Jak...
Jeremy Ball
Cutting her tail off was just adding insult to injury. I am shocked and appalled at the petty jealousy of the unadorned arses. Also, you deserved being ghostsploded, Jac. DESERVED.
Madison
Also this apotheosis of Sette's is driving me nuts. Yeah. Yeah let 'em howl. Let 'em be the sharp parts of you. Fuck. Ashley, you keep making me cry with this girl.
CelebrenIthil
:(
cydonia
The first betrayal is in the heart :(
Rifter
Rest in pieces, Khette!
Ashley
Heeeey, I'm glad you caught that :D It's subtle, but yeah.
GracieV
Man oh man, were these Sette dealt a shit hand or what. Sadness.
CD
Just... intense. Feeling the tragedy of the twin beasts so deeply with this, and rather lot of understanding for that hate bomb she hurled. Yeah. This'd fester.
Moss on Trees
Wait!! Is this the beginning of consuming twin-flesh? It’s both too late at night and too early in the morning for me to have as much energy as I do
Michael Stakely
Her face being split there is interesting.
Stretch Andrews
Damn.
Moss on Trees
Oh my gosh!! Not just character development for Sette, but the deep lore behind the twin rituals??? I’m screaming quietly!!!!!
JarJar
JESUS CHRIST!! SHe was alive all the way til the end???? No wonder Ruck loved this shit.
Madison
That's a big bird flying away.... Also wow, people have been calling the Ssaelit emblem of a Lion with a Crow in its mane as Jac and.... UHHH...... ASHLEY............
Alight
Dang, plural pages.
