Guessing Elka's thinking that if the smoochy relationship goes sour, then she might lose the badass partner in anti-crime relationship. I've had that feeling - friend of mine, super smart and funny, similar radical politics, cute as several buttons - but when another friend who she'd grown up with told me that she always cut ties with anyone after doin' 'em or after the relationship ended, I decided then and there that I'd never pursue her in that way; I just couldn't stand the thought of losing her as a friend.
