step 2 fill with primary colors
step 3 add shadows. I do them like this: I create a completely black layer, set it to multiply mode, then erase the excess (places where there is light), then adjust the transparency level
step 4 I do color correction, use Magic bullet looks plugin for photoshop , use layers with curves to correct color and brightness
step 5 - make a render, that is, make everything more accurate

i really like drawing dark images , like black bg , dominant char , glowing eyes xD , i cant draw light arts as good as other artist

Shading in "reverse" like that makes sense with your style now. V interesting
