As someone who grew up in Minnesota and identifies (sometimes) as a Midwesterner, I had to chuckle at the whole conversation about bars v. cookies! It really is a thing--I used to turn my chocolate chip cookie dough into bars instead of the cookies (and sometimes still do) because it saves a little bit of time and effort.
