Knock's Sharteshanian dialect - I even let her use "bene," a nice bit of thieves' cant - makes him feel more superior than he normally does.Back in my RP days I was nigh fluent in thieves' cant and Sette employed it frequently. I decided early on to give it a pass in Unsounded - the dialogue is often opaque enough already, I'm told :)

Quite the opposite, her mum loved her. All the pain of childbirth went away when she saw her baby, so she called her Anodyne, a thing that relieves pain. Of course mum bled to death right after and none of the rogues knew the word, so it became Anadyne.

I've been meaning to ask... did Anadyne's mum call her that because she didn't like her? Or did she not intend the pun?
