🕑 Added 2021-10-11 12:21:04 +0000 UTCStarting off the First WIP with the progress so far on the Narwhal. I've got most of it blocked out, and had someone suggest the pilots be secondary to the main drone, like the manned gun turrets on older planes. I really liked this idea and kinda took off with it.
And now the kinda lore I've got in my head is that the drone controls all motor functions as well as the main weapons fire, ad the two pilots control the secondary systems and auxiliary weapons systems. And the drone AI is one the two pilots have been working with from a calappa drone and up, so there kind of a close knit team by the time the AI is placed in a Narwhal. And I think that's rad xD The sides of the pod will be magnet hinged and have a bunch of neat little details like an extending ladder and other bits and gubbins.
Please keep in mind that the pod exterior is just currently blocking, and is mostly placeholder.
There will probably not be a pilot model for this one initially, but I'm gonna be looking into that~ (The current model shown is an edited 2pi pilot from Crucible of Games, and is only being used so I can get the scaling right.)
But for the people who don't like the pods, I'll have an option where they're replaced with just the secondary weapons turrets.
But to sweeten the pod deal, they come with DOOM pre-installed~
Also, before I started working on the Narwhal, blocked out some more upgrades for the 'Koma pattern Calappa, and if I have time this month they'll be part of the release as well. If not then they'll be part of the following month~

I like the idea of the two crewmembers as gunners, but think their current position does cause some problems with vulnerability and arcs of fire. I'd expect the pilot's stations to be inside the main body, where they're protected. Alternately, why not place the pods higher up, nested into the overhang near the rear? It would give the turrets attached to the pod (either on the side or bottom) a wider arc of fire without the legs getting in the way, and the main body could be flared out slightly to act as a shield for the pilots. I like the other other versions of the drone too, but think the one with the huge missile racks would run into problems with the missiles being angled down like that. I think angling them upwards or straight out would look better, since the missiles would risk slamming into the ground if the drone is on rough terrain.

Really like the concept! Maybe church up the pilots a bit by adding weapons above and below - kinda Star Wars "A New Hope" vibes?

Very cool idea with the pilots doing secondary weapons systems. I think with the picture you have up now, the front/back legs will hamper the firing range as well as the turrets being placed under the pilot seat. What if you where to put the turrets on the side of the pilot seat so they can have a wider firing angle. If you were to put another turret where that front senor orb (i believe thats what its called), it would be able to shot, with all its gun, just about anywhere except right behind the unit itself. Not something you have to do but just a thought/idea
