After spending so much time with these Marines and witnessing the brutal realities of the Pacific theatre through their eyes, part 10 was such a bittersweet end to it all. Seeing them return home, trying to piece their lives back together after everything they'd been through, was heartbreaking and oddly hopeful. I couldn't help but feel a mix of sadness for their pain and admiration for their incredible resilience. It made me think about how much they sacrificed and how their stories go beyond just the battles. They're about survival and the struggle to find peace after the chaotic storm. It left me with a really deep sense of gratitude and a lot of food for thought. Thank you all for joining me on this one!
Also, I did check my local library right after this episode to see if they carried any of the books written by these Marines and they do! I was also really pleasantly surprised to see that 'With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa' was completely checked out and I had to put a hold on it and now wait my turn to read it. Even for the E-book! I love that even after all this time, these books are still well loved and still being read. I'm currently #5 in line for the book. :)

I highly recommend watching another's YT channel's series on The Pacific: Reel History. The host watches the episodes with Eugene Sledge's youngest son, Henry Sledge. It is fascinating hearing Henry's comments on his father, his grandparents, SNAFU, Bill Layden and even the making of The Pacific. Very good stuff. Not exactly reacting material (reacting to a reactor?) but a very informative series. They haven't put out the last episode but hopefully they will soon.

I didn't want to post this on episode 8 because I didn't know if it was a spoiler (I was watching this blind for the first time with you) but after that episode, I was so touched by the story of John and Lena Basilone that I read their entire wikipedia page. It says that Lena was buried still wearing her wedding ring. They were only married for 7 months before he died but she remained his wife for 54 years after. I don't even know how to explain how that makes me feel. It's like... equal parts beautiful and heartbreaking.
