The raw depiction of the brutal battle on Peleliu left me reflecting back on the physical and emotional toll that war takes on soldiers. The unflinching portrayal of all the chaos, unforgiving environment and the camaraderie among the men highlighted the thin line between survival and absolute despair. This episode felt like a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made and the resilience needed to endure such an unimaginable hardship. All of these soldiers are true heroes.

Late to the conversation, this is one of the harder episodes to watch. I only have 1 comment to add. I always took Snafu stopping Sledge from taking the gold teeth as his way of trying to keep Sledge from completely losing his humanity. Snafu started as an ass to Sledge but my interpretation of his observation over time spent with Sledge is that he saw something pure and innocent about him. After Sledge went back for him and basically saved his life when they were crossing that airfield, I always took that he didn't want Sledge to completely lose that part of himself. Snafu's "character" is unhinged but he started looking out for Sledge because he saw something in him that he wished he had. This is definitely a hard series to rewatch. I too was extremely disturbed when I first saw him throwing rocks into that open skull. This is why I spaced out watching these with you, they're just gut wrenching to watch back to back.
