It felt like cracking open the dusty yearbook from my small-town high school where the holy trinity was lifted trucks, fast cars, and cowboy boots with huge bonfires every weekend. I remember a kid getting yelled at in Gym pretty much every day for wearing his cowboy boots instead of sneakers and his absolute refusal to change into any other footwear hahaha. I've definitely jammed out to East Bound and Down during a few of those bonfire weekends never realizing it was made for THIS movie. And when that realization hit, my world felt like it completely shifted for a moment!
There's something about that Southern charm-meets-rebel energy that hit home in the most nostalgic way for me. Burt Reynolds' grin could start a bar fight and end it with a wink lol. And Sally Field? OMG. Absolute Queen of the runaway brides. I was grinning the whooole time!
HUGE shoutout to Code Monkey for this Movie Ticket pick! You may not be hauling 400 cases of Coors across state lines, but you did smuggle this gem right into my watchlist and into my personal favorites! I owe you a Diablo sandwich and a Dr. Pepper :) Thank you!

Hooper is definitely a good suggestion, also The Cannonball Run (1981) with Burt Reynolds, Don DeLuise and Farrah Fawcett, lots of other famous Actors for the time, lots of fun and fast cars, oh and Jackie Chan.

This movie was my favorite growing up and I always wanted to be a truck driver after seeing this movie. I even had a Basset Hound named Fred. I did eventually go through truck driving school and get my Commercial Driver's License. I have been to nearly every state. I'm local now, mostly Virginia and Maryland. Sometimes I'll take my dog Bear with me in the truck.

I don't know if you will read this a couple days later but I was 8 when this movie came out, I didn't get to watch it until it came on TV a couple years later. I begged for a remote control TA for X-mas and got one. Anyway, yes, I remember the trucker era. My dad even installed a CB in his car. I had a notebook for school that had all the code words and what the numbers meant that they said on the CB. This movie is what made a lot of later 70's trucker movies a thing, like the movie Convoy. In high school, I had a 68 Mustang but one of my friends had a blue TA like the Bandit's car. I wanted one but they were a bit out of my price range. Even though I grew up in MO, it sounds like we had similar teenage experiences. I hauled hay in the summers for 10cents a bail and all my friends were rednecks and either had a hot car or a big lifted truck, there was no in between. I haven't seen this movie in years, and although I remember all the iconic lines, it was fun to revisit. Everyone had a crush on Sally Field after this movie. All the girls loved Burt Reynolds. Another great Burt Reynolds movie is The Longest Yard. Maybe someday down the road you can watch it.

Yup, it's best not to strain your brain too hard with this movie! Just relax and enjoy watching a couple of really good looking people driving a gorgeous car... and listen to that V8 roar! π

That's fantastic, @M1 Maz! I grew up in the '70s and also love big blocks! A high school friend of mine had a 1970 Mustang Mach 1, but it wasn't enough engine for him, so he sold it and bought a 1970 Challenger 440 Six-Pack! It sounds like you'll understand when I say that the carburetor linkage was set up so that it ran only only the two middle barrels until you pushed the accelerator most of the way to the floor. But then, holy crap, when those other four barrels kicked in, it would just pin you back in the seat! Almost 50 years later, and it still makes me grin... π

Oh man, this was such a fun reaction! This movie just has all the best vibes. And I think the coolest part was that this film served as a reminder that you just never know when and where you'll find a personal connection to a world or story! And that's the really cool part about your reaction journey (and discovering so many movies and shows along the way with you). Also, ever since you announced you'd be watching this one, Eastbound and Down had been constantly playing in my head, and I thought it was from another similar movie that this was reminding me of. But sure enough, it's from here! The mind is never wrong haha :) This movie, along with other similar ones of the time, completely shaped so many of my interests growing up! I'm still a big block muscle car guy to this day thanks to so many of the iconic movie cars like this one haha. And after getting inspired by this watch with you, the question is do I boot up Gran Turismo and take the ol' Trans Am out for a spin, or hop on one of my trucking sims LOL Also.... I'm glad I wasn't the only one getting anxiety from Carrie putting her feet on the dash hahaha
