That's a good call out, I think my Dad does repair quite a few of them haha.

A FrankenPIX! Finally a use for my dead 20 year-old bookmarks: https://web.archive.org/web/20030207222841/http://www.packetattack.com/frankenpix.html

This is awesome. Also, it might be worth learning a bit about VCR repair and maintenance? I bet the issues 99% of the time are the heads getting clogged with magnetic media coming off old tapes. That or maybe just some lubrication, etc. That way she can always have at least one working VCR and a spare can be maintained and waiting for a swap whenever needed :)

Definitely gonna follow up on this one!

I'll definitely have a follow-up, ran out of time last night!

As far as I know the PIX520 was a stock Intel Desktop Board 440bx with a Pentium 3 CPU, the only custom part of the whole machine was the flash card. They came with 2 x Intel 10/100 NICs and could support an extra 4 port Intel NIC too. Alot of years ago I was able to build one up from a stock board and a flash card from eBay.

You HAVE to put in a video card and see if you can play games on it.

Wouldn't be suprised if the motherboard was an intel oem, would be cool if the rack was spray painted a cisco colour\color

Man, so curious as to whether the BIOS outputs anything over an AGP video card. And like, while the PIX software is running and outputting over serial, will there be some generic message like - please connect via serial using these settings? Hm.. 🤔

same!

I love the Cisco logo in the pix terminal.
