Early Vid: ATM Networking
🕑 Added 2025-04-16 03:04:36 +0000 UTCExploring ATM networking with a 3Com CELLPlex 7000 and CoreBuilder 7000. We'll try to get some Windows XP machines hooked up to these things with some Fore Systems ATM PCI cards.
EDIT: Luke has pointed out that Windows itself was assigning those IP addresses via APIPA. I had turned off Windows firewall on the ThinkCentre in the past, which was why the laptop could ping it, so basically I had a fully functional LAN the whole time π€¦ββοΈ
I know this one is very early but I'm out of town this weekend and figured I might as well get it posted!
EDIT2: Video is live.

yeah figured that out later, you definitely weren't the only person shouting haha

Was I the only one shouting at the screen for: - The link-local IP addresses are not assigned by any DHCP server - They are on the same /16 subnet - The Dell laptop has the Windows firewall on (it says it in the network control panel), which is probably the reason why you cannot ping it, but you can ping the other way around
Glen Dady
The IP Addresses that you are getting are "link local" addresses. 169.254.0.0/16 - This is the "link local" block. As described in [RFC3927], it is allocated for communication between hosts on a single link. Hosts obtain these addresses by auto-configuration, such as when a DHCP server cannot be found. I hope that helps.

Seeing your cats is definitely worth the Patreon subscription! :> I hope New Cat (to whom we have not been properly introduced) is getting along a little better with Nicki these days.
