November Update - Attack or Die Edition
🕑 Added 2017-11-08 08:07:03 +0000 UTC Hello Everyone,I really dreaded writing this update, as I know it once again appears like the cursed cycle that is Aylia's Story continues. I'm not going to lie or exaggerate, I have not gotten a lot done since my father passed away. I've spent time on the game, and I've done some work, but my creativity was not there. I also found my way into more than a few binge-worthy nights, that led to less than stellar days. It was the first time I missed just doing mundane network installations or cabling where I could work without having to give it much thought.
While that may sound bleak as Hell, not all is doom and gloom. I never anticipated hitting a low like this, but moving to a team in the past 6 months has been a life saver. Work has been moving forward on the scripting side of things and a few nagging issues look to be resolved. Additionally, we may be closing in on save compatibility--even though I know everyone wants to play the prologue again! MiB and I agreed on a secondary artist to take over some of the minor artwork and he's sent me updated battle HUD options which also should make it into the next version.
I'm sticking with one, and only one goal this month... get a release out the door. A release with a sizable amount of chapter 1 content, multiple scenes, and one I can be proud of. I've invested too much time into Aylia's Story to watch it die in a depressed stupor, and seeing progress being made despite my inability to get much accomplished is an incredible morale boost. I'd rather attack than die.

4. A December update post talking about how awesome the release of Aylia's Story was last month.

Patreon. And for those not on Discord. I ran into a scripting error during my test playthrough. Artwork is done and input. Dialogue is done and input. Quests are done and input. I've sent a message out and the person I work with should be online tomorrow. My belief is he will know what the message indicates and how to fix it. I pretty sure it's part of the sidequest system and assign attributes through "achievements." I could disable the side quests, but since that is a large portion of this release, it seems better to see if it can be resolved tomorrow. If it can't be resolved quickly, I'll look into disabling the side quest system and releasing what is playable tomorrow evening and you can play it over the weekend. If you have any questions/concerns, send me a message or post on Discord. I'll be online tomorrow and try to answer them. Thank you.

I'll add that there are no plans for a pledged update this month. As I mentioned in August, I would always like to give you ample warning (48 hours or so) before I run a pledge. That way, you know it is coming and you can choose to skip it if you are unsure of things. Since this Patreon has not turned out how I'd have liked over the past few years, I don't want to spring a charge on you all of a sudden. So, I won't run any pledged updates on the last day of the month and surprise you with a charge. I do fully intend to run a pledged update in December though, so be aware of that. That pledge will also initiate the first round of Patreon rewards in a long time.

Still aiming to release an alpha tonight. It won't have the fully functioning battle system, and it'll only be the initial first few days. It should give you an indication of where things are headed and start you off on what chapter 1 will look like. It will have new artwork and content. A lot of what's been done is setting the stage for the fully save functional version in December. This is the release I should have gotten out in September and the next one (0.13) will be the one I was hoping for October. Thanks for your patience, I won't be posting until around 2am PST.

Glad you like the potential. Combat is coming along, but it is slated to get fully implemented in the release after next. That will also be the release I believe will lock in saves and save transfers. There are a few lingering issues in the combat (how to get h-attacks working, changing pictures, how to get those pictures to scroll nicely onto the screen, etc.) But, I've got people working on that. My current task is making Bogwort's advice role more interesting and useful.

usually i'm one of the guys who post something about a delay and how annoying it is, blah blah - however, considering what's happened to YT, I was never expecting a release and completely understand why there wouldn't be one... still have 3 days of course, but otherwise I'm OK with a delay this time around while he settles.

Sorry for your loss. Losing a family member is never easy. The combat in this game is what made me a supporter, Indie games with new takes on stuff is important, would love a place to grind enemies a lot.

The good thing about it is that when you have lost your hype the game can feel very good, while if you are hyped the game will only feel worse than your exoectations ^^

I mean there's the really really really really old slang term "box" if you really want it? Looking forward to the release, kinda lost some of my original hype for the project but hey if it's good when it comes out it just means I'll be all the more happy. Over-hype can cause problems anyways.

Yummy-Tiger, while it may seem like you haven't been doing a lot, the fact you are now working with RPG maker and have a team helping you makes a huge difference. You dad passed on, that is going to put you in an usual place for a while, just remember, it will get better. In the mean time, if anyone here needs an Hentai elf fix, might I suggest Tialucy and the Underground Labyrinth. It's worth checking out while we wait.)

I just don't know how to feel about this project. You never charge, but there is always something coming up that delays it, and this has been pretty consistent for a couple years now. It's a paradox among patreon developers tbh. There is one positive though: I now know very well who among the monthly developers to stop supporting. Anyway it seems to me you're getting too used to not getting work/milestones done. Hopefully you get this together before money gets to be a problem. 6 months past your original deadline from your full time commitment is coming up pretty soon now. Why the hell you think you're going to get a release out this month is beyond me.

Like Panthear said since you don't charge unless you're putting something out I have no problem with delays. I mean obviously I'd prefer if you were pumping out updates on a weekly basis but even more than that I want you to not feel too stressed out and decide to throw in the towel. If that means you need to take a few weeks or a month or two to adjust to something (like your father passing away) then so be it. Just don't feel that you have to push yourself, okay?
