So I've been doing some practice off-camera...
🕑 Added 2019-11-15 18:59:07 +0000 UTCI was just trying to come up with the easiest shell impact technique I could think of for the new video and might just accidentally found my new favorite approach lol. In the past I've been working with soldering iron and epoxy putty, but I really enjoyed this quick practice piece. All you need is to drill out a shallow hole, fill it with putty, give it about a minute to dry and then push it out with a blunt smooth object... done... brb, gonna do some filming on that turret in the background.
Also, as you can see, I've been doing more experiments with zimmerit made from regular Tamiya Putty. It's... meh... but I love the gritty texture it creates... that texture looks totally like the real thing scaled down 35 times. Too bad everything else sucks lol.

Night Shift
This is the most basic method using Tamiya Basic modelling putty, spread it over the surface with a toothpick and then use a razor saw or one of those saw-like zimmerit spatulas to carve in the pattern while the putty is still soft. This method is quite unpredictable (or at least I didn't spend enough time to figure out all the tricks) and most of the time the putty will start to tear off. It's almost like a "low cost" version of Polyester putty zimmerit.

Zimmerit is quite convincing. Usually you see "too perfect" samples, this works for my eye very well. Dare to share your process?

So many textures that I don't really know where to fix my eyes! 😂 looking forward to see that "holy" technique in action 👌🏻👌🏻!! and yeah, the cast texture in that turret looks highly interesting!
