The final zimmerit test
🕑 Added 2019-12-10 15:54:04 +0000 UTCHey guys, I'm working on this week's video, which will be, like we discussed a few weeks back, about my first attempts with zimmerit.
Here are the two results which I like the most. The first is plastic putty - Mr. Filler from MRP applied with a zimmerit scriber tool, and the second is Tamiya Epoxy rolled into a thin "tarp" and textured with the roller tool. Now both results have their pros and cons and of course I'd need a couple more test pieces to get a good hold at both techniques, but when I'm comparing the results with historical photos, both methods recreate a specific type of zimmerit accurately. The plastic putty method creates a nice thin in scale layer while the epoxy method is thicker and more pronounced. This can be both good and bad. The fine Mr. Filler zimmerit could get toned down a lot with paint and weathering while the epoxy zimmerit could look very good once painted.
It's really funny but I'm actually not even sure which method I'd use on an actual model.. but at the moment, believe it or not, I like the Mr. Filler example more than the Epoxy Putty!
