🕑 Added 2019-12-14 21:21:24 +0000 UTCSince posting the video I received some good feedback and most people with lots of zimmerit experience (that's an odd term) said to ditch the modelling putty and zimmerit applicator method and focus on the epoxy putty.
I've been also told that you can spread the putty really thin with a spatula. Since I don't have a spatula I used a cheap dollar store chisel which works perfectly. The key is to put a few very small blobs of putty on the surface and spread it with the aid of water. This is the most time consuming and important part of the process. From what I've seen many guys who are real pros at this don't mind if the coat is slightly irregular in thickness but I'd like to get it really dialed.
Someone also told me that Tamiya Epoxy Smooth (the white putty) is even better for this. I can get that one so I'll eventually try it out.
Most people also said to get a metal Lion Roar zimmerit roller as the plastic ones suck. Unfortunately it seems to be sold out everywhere, I didn't find it on ebay either. After looking at photos of it, it has flat "teeth", so I modified my tools by gently sanding them down.
Anyway, here are the results and until I start working on that Tiger I'll keep practicing.
Also expect some big progress on the Rutscher tonight as well!

Hey bud. Trying you zimmerit technique. I’ve had hit and miss results. My biggest issue is water getting between the putty and model. It seems to be stuck down but even a wet zimm roller pulls it up. Same tool you use. Any suggestions for me

And from the photos I've seen all plastic rollers look to be the same. Only the Lion Roar tool stands out with its flattened teeth, but it's unavailable everywhere.

You mentioned getting a zimmerit roller-AFV Club had one, but it’s OOS like the other one, from a quick google search. Great work though!
