So today, a base was born 🤣It's still in the initial stages though and there's a lot more to add.
I started by cutting a block of styrofoam on a circular saw, then I made the rough shape of the terrain with a knife, and then covered it with an initial layer of texture (Ammo diorama mud paste). While it was drying I brushed Mr. Surfacer 500 in two layers on the sides to remove the foam texture. I think one more layer would be good, but I somehow like the texture. It will be of course painted black once it's all done.
When it all dried I gave the "road" another layer of Wilder textured earth, because it's much finer. I had to level the terrain a bit to make the tank sit "in" the gravel. Because I want the terrain to be very gravely, loose, and with lots of texture, I sprinkled the road with 0.5mm stones, followed up by another sprinkle of 0.25mm gravel. I got these different sizes from a friend who used to work at a cement factory. I tried imprinting the model a bit while the sand was setting into the textured earth, but it wasn't enough, so I added more, and flooded it with Gravel and sand fixer. When that was starting to dry up I imprinted the tank even more. Now I'm leaving it to dry completely before I continue with the sides, which will be mostly rocky. I have some 1mm and 2mm rocks for that, but before I finish the lower corner I want to add some stowage there... well in this case it's not really stowage. I printed some more stuff, but I haven't cleaned it up yet.
Well, what can I say... let's not get our hopes too high. It's my first terrain since forever, so it won't be anything extraordinary. It might turn into a total disaster as well, but we'll see 😄

Yeah, I know that trick, used it only once though waaaaaaaay back on my last diorama. This model is very lightweight, so it doesn't really need to be secured that firmly in place, but I'll just add some more textured earth underneath it once the base is finished, press it firmly down, and once the paste is dry I'll just quickly paint it the same way like the rest of the base. Should be pretty simple 😊 And it will also fix the model in place.

How are you planning to fix the tank to the base? I would consider drilling a hole in the lower hull and through the base so you can use a nut and bolt to 'pull' the tank onto the surface. It should help make it sit properly, rather than floating on the base.
