🕑 Added 2020-07-03 22:57:37 +0000 UTCHey friends, so I painted the base with basic colors. Most of the work was done with an airbrush and Tamiya paints - the road was done the same way as pre-dusting on the tank, and I'll be making it "muddy" with enamels, again, just like on the tank.
Grass was airbrushed with the new XF-89 (the new German olive green) and Yellow Green for some variety. It looks okay from afar, but looking closer it's obvious I'll need that static grass gizmo. I'm gonna order it right after I'm done with this post π
The green overspray will be fixed with Aqualine paint, and then I'll apply the Loose Ground from Ammo to make the ground look the same as the compressed mud in the tank's tracks.
Oh and I also painted the fence and the broken tree branch, all with acrylics squeezed on a wet palette which arrived today πI'll add some fake shadows, washes and moss on the fence with oil paints later. A few stones were also painted with a light grey color, but most of them will definitely disappear under the mud layer.
One thing I finally noticed is that making tank tread impressions with the model assembled, aka with tracks on, is pretty damn hard. Even though I felt like I did a reasonably good job on the air drying clay, they almost disappeared after a thin layer of textured mud. They're barely noticeable, and I'll try to enhance them with paints, but it's another lesson learned for the future. It's no big deal if you have Friul tracks or spare rubber bands or whatever, but with those link and length ones... eh. I think it'll be smarter to wait until the base is built and then glue them to the tank for the final time.
I'll most likely take a break tomorrow, have another family party to attend to (summer = birthday parties almost every week in my family π) and I'll also go on a longer bike ride in the mountains. High chance I'll do some work in the evening, but in case I go quiet, you'll know why π I'd like to have it all done by the end of the weekend after all...

Terrains are a nice break from the usual armor modelling techniques, so I'll keep doing them whenever possible :)

One thing I'd like to do is bases and dioramas. I like my model building (nowhere near perfect) as I enjoy learning and exploring new techniques. Now I want my models to tell a story. Well done sir.

I actually started watching his videos regularly. His videos actually shown me how useful a static grass applicator can be. However many of the other methods he uses seem to me like they're more suited to large sized dioramas like he does, military dioramas are usually just a fraction of what he does, and as such more attention to detail might be required. And it's actually not just the static grass tool, after watching his last video with the steel bridge I thought that hot wire foam cutting board would be such a sweet thing to have lol, and now I ordered both of those π

That's great work on the base. Not overwhelming but gives some context to the model and the environment it operated in. Have you checked out Luke Towan and his Boulder Creek Railroad channel on YT. Another Aussie with some great diorama building skills.
