Well, this wasn't the best idea!
🕑 Added 2020-11-12 21:32:56 +0000 UTCCreating stowage after the model is finished is not a great idea at all my friends, especially when you want to work efficiently! Oh how naive I was thinking it can be all done in one day... somehow I forgot that we need to wait for each layer to dry!
So before I proceed with the final layer of weathering and implement them with the model, I just need to let it all sit at least overnight. In the meantime I'll maybe edit the video about fir branches. At first I wanted to put it all into one episode, but considering how y'all liked the result, other people might find it helpful and this way it'll be easier to find.
Hope I won't receive too much heat for those shell casings 😅 Apparently they were made out of steel and painted green. I'm including some reference pictures which I found online. The last picture shows some interesting weathering effects which I'll probably create because it's definitely something you don't expect to see when imagining tank ammunition.
What you see so far are standard techniques - pinwash, some oil dots, light and dark chipping and a subtle rust wash. Next up are earth tones and some stains on the jack, jerry cans and shells.
I tried to create some variety with base colors. Each of the dark yellow parts are painted in a slightly different shade, one can is painted in field grey, helmets are in panzer grey and shells are a mixture of olive green and yellow green.
Although I'll only add like two of the ammo shells on the tank, the rest will go on the base. All of them? Probably not, but better have some spares ready and I thought painting them all in one go will mean less suffering during the diorama construction 😆

Exactly, since the branches aren't tied to the tank but just stuck behind stuff I'd imagine it was originally covered in more but they fell off over time. We can see how strong the shockwave is when a gun fires in some of the Syrian street videos, things just go flying away from the tank... and I imagine this would easily happen with the 128mm PaK as well, so yeah, I'll put the leftover branches around it :)

Looking great Uncle. Great find on the ammo being green, makes a change from painting them brass. I think the weathering makes them a bit more interesting. Painting them one solid colour wouldn’t be very interesting at least to me anyways . Can’t wait for the diorama and should I mention the figure😁

Love the attention to the gas cans and helmets, they certainly look used and add some different German war colors to this late ambush scheme. I think it will be awesome to see the spent casings on the engine deck and the ground, one more layer to help tie in the tank with its setting. I imagine some small pines may even be on the base?? Looking forward to seeing if you work in the soot layers on the open side of the casing. If it's anything like rifle/pistol ammunition, the residue is somewhere indistinguishable from black pigment, but doesn't all asher so you could even have some areas of less soot where the crew grabbed the casing to toss it. Like a reverse handprint!! Haha but that kind of detal us probably too difficult to do in a way that translates effectively at 1/35 scale.
