Doing the "real" hairspray chipping after so many years was helluva refreshing, and it eased my fear of losing control over the effect. Overdoing it with distressing is alright, but going too heavy with actual chips can be kinda unpleasant. Luckily, Syrian armor is great for such practice. I'll put a camouflage on top of this tomorrow, I already have a color profile ready.
The most important and quite game-changing step is to put a thin mist of white underneath the actual color (no hairspray in between). This way you'll need fewer coats of green to cover up the rust base coat and thus it'll be easier to chip the paint.
I guess we're going Mike Rinaldi style on this one, as I plan a high-octane, balls to the walls oil paint action on this worn paint job!

Sorry for reviving this old discussion: what kind of thinner do you use for the layer above the chipping fluid (both the light white and the main green)? Tam X20A, Yellow Cap or Mr.Levelling?
