Precinct Omega Weekly Miniatures News Podcast #21 - Infinity 4th Edition & The Lifecycle of Tabletop Wargames

We could also talk about the HeroQuest announcement. And the new Age of Exploration fantasy sailing game, Armada, from Mantic Games. But those will just have to wait, because this episode is all about Infinity.
But you know me: I'm not just here to froth about a new product. In fact, although I will talk briefly about what's changed, we'll not be looking at the detail of the new edition at all. Rather, we'll be asking what it tells us about Corvus Belli's strategic plan for Infinity, what lessons they've learned from their competition and how this fits in to my ideas about the lifecycle of tabletop wargames. Obviously, I'll also talk about how I've taken these lessons and applied them to my own work.
We are also joined by an exciting new... guest? You'll see. I think she's pretty cool and I hope we'll hear a lot more from her in the future.

I think Code One could be even simpler than it actually is, but... my idea is to keep playing Code One from now on. N4... possibly with the hardcore players I know. I really don't like META play. X-wing (1st Ed) was one to make like (simple) META. Infinity N3 last year, was the game that burned me on META (a particular lack of tools to deal with a MSV2 HMG Intruder was it).

Oh, man, you are so going to like the episode I have planned, then, about exactly this: how the proprietary game manufacturers manipulate customers (often unintentionally but not always) to establish brand loyalty against what would appear to be logic and common sense. I just have to wait for a suitable news item to build it around... 😁

Re-reading that comment, you might think why am I a backer here then if I prefer mini games? Few reasons if that is of interest. One, I do like the rules system you've created. Two, I am enjoying the journey with you - as you noted - sharing thoughts and feedback as part of a creative journey is really interesting and your podcast and candour are a big part of that. Three; the ethos you spell out means we've clear got shared values, so I'm invested in the whole thing now. Thanks :)
