Glue it, weld it, zimmer it
🕑 Added 2021-09-08 12:14:33 +0000 UTCMy friends, there's nothing better than starting a new project and running out of glue π But now my stocks will last for at least a while. On other news, I welded the hull using the traditional method, added a few more bits here and there and started applying the Zimmerit.
Needless to say, the lower hull was the absolute worst. Hard to reach, hard to smear the putty in a thin, even layer, hard to make straight lines with a hobby blade... I'm glad none of it will be visible on the completed model! Even the tile size is completely wrong, more accurate for a Panther A, but at least it's there. I considered skipping the lower hull altogether, but it was a good training spot. So far I have the glacis and rear plate finished so now I can move to the upper hull where it's gonna cover larger surfaces.
Surprisingly, it's a more tedious process than the traditional roller-applicator method. You need to keep the lines somewhat straight so the tiles aren't all over the place and go over the pattern 2-3 times. Very carefully. Luckily, the Jagdpanther has pretty simple shapes so the rest shouldn't be a problem. One plate takes about an hour to complete, so I'm not even trying to guess how much I'll manage to complete today π

I bought the The Takom which has Zimmerit. Should I use a blade to make it more profound.

Thanks! Welds were done with Tamiya Epoxy Quick Type and Zimm with Tamiya too, but Smooth Surface type π
