Plastic details and tiny welds
🕑 Added 2021-09-14 18:52:05 +0000 UTCMa friens, I got every piece of plastic done. The model is pretty much ready for photo etch! Looks kinda "empty" at the moment, but the magic lies in the PE! Bent mudguards, side skirts, 3 storage bins and other goodies!
I made the tiny weld beads from the missing tool mounts on the sides. Those are made from stretched sprue because it's easier to create REALLY tiny welds compared to epoxy putty. Especially on a flat surface with no scribing. The trick was in attaching the PE fixtures with small drops of CA, then carefully adding the sprue "welds" in appropriate places, using the PE parts as templates. Then I could simply pop the PE off and boom! Mr. Cement S doesn't react with PE (duh) so it was a pretty clean job. Then I just textured them with a blade, added one more pass of glue and done. It was tedious af though!
The kit has BEAUTIFUL workable hatches. They're really fun to play with. So much so I managed to snap one off already.
So yeah, tomorrow I might finally put together the Zimmerit video so it's out of the way, or I'll start messing with PE.
And the theme of the diorama will be all about cats and dogs 😁

You're too kind! Looking back I made them a little too obvious, but life's too short to go back and rework them 😁

I had to read your description twice and look at the pics again to see where these welds were... O M G... this is beyond mere mortal 'attention to detail' - I'm not sure how to describe your work but it's certainly the work of a great master and we very lucky to witness your creations develop. Always inspirational work... thanks again for sharing. Very much looking forward to seeing this develop.

This kitty is shaping up into something special. Really like the weld beads for the relocated tools. Such a small detail but adds so much. Shame for the broken hatch. That's the problem with working bits on kits. It brings out our inner kid and even though we knows we is gonna break it, we. can't. help. ourselves....
