As Courtney love said βI get what I want and I never want it againβ. In her case this resulted in huge royalties.

I left school in 1999...it was a pretty rough school and area but you know what? I might just try and arrange a reuinion...I have most of them on facebook and only a few are heroin addictive so what could go wrong π€·

Yeah as others have pointed out, the German cannibal thing was based on a real life story so it's probably just coincidence that the two shows referenced it at the same time. Also, if anyone wants to look up the story, just a warning that it's pretty dark.

Mad isn't it! The ratings were never good and Channel 4 sound like they desperately wanted to ditch it, it was only strong DVD sales and the endorsement of the likes of Gervais which saved it.

Nothing wrong with a school reunion, I went to a 10 year one and I'm gonna go to a belated 20 year one (because of Covid). A lot of the reason is because I DIDN'T peak then and wanna show everyone who had peaked then, how much better I am than them now :-D

Both IT Crowd and Peep Show are referencing a real life story that was news at the time. The German cannibal. Also happy 20th Birthday to Peep Show!

The German cannibal thing was a big story in the news a few years before this and the IT Crowd episodes aired. It turned out that cannibalism isn't/wasn't illegal in Germany and it came to light because two guys had met on the internet with the agreement that one had permission to cook and eat the other. They ate his private bits together then the cannibal killed him, chopped him up, then put the meat in his freezer. Absolutely grim story. German cannibals became almost a bit of a meme after that.

Saw this article yesterday marking the 20th anniversary of the show. Its an interview with Mitchell and Webb and the writers. I never realised it was constantly on the edge of being cancelled! https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/sep/18/the-scripts-were-the-funniest-things-id-ever-read-the-stars-of-peep-show-look-back-20-years-later?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
