Hi Mandy, 5:30 Why’d they show the celebrity brother footage at the start? It’s the “How we got here” TV trope, open the story in the middle or near the end, and most the episode will be spent showing how the character got there. It’ll probably be him at his lowest point, just before he turns it around and the story wraps itself up wonderfully, just predicting this bit, I’ve only got up to this point right now. 12:05 one of Barry’s EastEnders acting colleagues working at carphone warehouse 🤣 14:48 I guess the joke is Dr Who isn’t Shakespeare, it’s beloved by fans, family entertainment, but isn’t the best platform to show off your acting chops. 30:53 Mandy: “She’s got nothin’” … “I’m just sayin’”… bad casting, right? 😆 35:30 I hear everything’s better with company, even sitting bare-bottomed on a cake 🤣 and you don’t care to explain for your Extras viewers? Haha, I guess they’ll just have to catch up with 6 seasons of Taskmaster 😄 37:45 This depiction of Big Brother was so real, yet doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface. The non-celeb version went on for over 90 days, earlier seasons broadcast footage 24/7 - uhh I remember just tuning into this until the early hours. Psychologists control the narrative, and tasks were engineered to probe people’s character flaws. Big Brother was at its peak here when this was made. 39:02 “Would you come to my Hello! wedding?” Hello! magazine? It’s a celebrity gossip magazine in the UK, and I think she’s saying Hello! Will splash out on a celeb wedding, for the publicity, and exposure in their magazine. 52:35 A couple of Christmas trees and I heard a few jingle bell sound overs too, don’t forget Andy’s doll brought out for the Christmas market 😆 Thank you thank you thank you 🙏🙌🤗

There's no Stephen unfortunately this is where they 'split' You do get a lot of Karl in Derek tough, so it's not all bad :)

Great reaction Mandy, I cracked up when you got mixed up and called celebrity Big Brother Celebrity Death Match, what a show that would be!! I agree with you about Ashley Jensen (Maggie) She's a beautiful lady and she's also in 'Afterlife' which was 3 seasons long and also written and starring Ricky, what a show that is, it will tear your heart out one minute and have you rolling with laughter the next, and you obviously did'nt notice, but in part one, Karl was stood outside The Ivy but he had his back to us, I was willing you to see him, but was so happy when you did in part two as your pure joy was brilliant!....Thanks for the reaction, take care and all the best to you!

I grew tired of every show or movie where a guy and a girl are friends they end up together and have "loved each other all along". Yay, loved the reaction, this Special is just so good. A couple of parts are a little contrived though, people don't just blurt stuff out like that (e.g. when Andy said it was that last show and called the audience morons). But overall it was so good. I mentioned about Ricky having a moment in the Special (dunno if you remembered), but yeah, every time Maggie reacts to Ricky's big apology, it gets me. Her reaction to "I'd be the penguin" just gets ya. They built up to that for most of the episode. Awesome moment, and I wouldn't be surprised if Ricky meant most of that, which is why it was written in. Now we are left to ponder... did they end up together. I'm going to go with yes. Karl is 6ft1in (1.85m), Ricky is 5ft8in (1.73m), and Steve is 6ft7in (2.0m). Oh and for completion, Ashley (Maggie) is 5ft2in (1.60m). Ashley is also in Afterlife btw. That series has a sad undertone all through, but there is comedy there. Derek is funny as hell, has Karl and is sometimes a little coarse :) The bloopers though are hilarious. And of course The Office is the classic. Just amazing comedy writing. Ricky at his best. What a great evening this was. Thanks Mandy !!

I'm a huge Doctor Who fan and this is a hot take that would get people so mad, but honestly the scene here completely feels like it could be a Ten era episode. I feel there's such rose coloured glasses when people think about it, when it was mostly cringe nonsense 😬 not a fan of Ten at all

I love the part with Andy, basically just Ricky Gervais calling out the paparazzi thing and you're spot on with Emma Watson, they did the same thing with Millie Bobby Brown too. It's the height of creepiness seeing these actresses as kids, growing up through the harry potter films or Stranger things or whatever... and as soon as they turn 18 it's as if everyone's been queuing up to celebrate "finally it's okay to admit they're hot"... It's disgusting. I really love the way Ricky & Steve write, they keep the characters so grounded & believable and they're really good with the sad moments. Same with the Office & Derek and Afterlife, there's a good dose of reality they deliver with those moments and they always land really well. Great reaction as always, it's such a pleasure to journey through shows like this again with someone watching them for the first time :) But... What's next i wonder?!

Amazing reaction from a lovely human! 💙 I have watched this episode (and all the others) about 20 times probably and the scene where Andy apologises to Maggie on Big Brother *always* makes me cry! Extras is a harsh show at times, focuses on failure, embarrassment, ego, unkindness. But that's why Maggie herself (easily my favourite character in the show) and heartfelt scenes like that work so well. I agree with you too, Mandy! Ashley Jensen, aka Maggie is a very good-looking woman! Feel so awful that she's so regularly criticised for her looks in this show! Andy and Clive Owen need an appointment with an optician, immediately! 😂 Others are championing Derek and After Life but I'm afraid I can't in the same way. For me, neither show comes even close to the brilliance of Extras. I have many reasons, could write an essay on why, but won't for now. I would strongly recommend The Office UK though! For me, this was Steve and Ricky's magnum opus! Absolutely exquisite! You are so right that Stephen Merchant is not given enough credit. He writes 50% of Extras and The Office and for me it shows. Derek and After Life are both penned solely by Ricky. He needs Steve IMHO. Just my opinion. Lots of people love Ricky's solo written stuff, so it's subjective I reluctantly concede. 😉 Great to watch these with you! 🙏

I'm sure you're gearing up to watch derek soon, there is a DVD extra called 'the art of corpsing' from EXTRAS that would make a good youtube reaction i think, its essentially more bloopers but with commentary from the actors on how bizzare an experience it is, its both funny and interesting Also, you could definitely watch doctor who! plenty of people have done it and theres a bit of a gap in the market right now so to speak. its a bit of a long haul commitment, but i dont doubt most people would enjoy a reaction to it someday

Doctor Who is a great show that started in the 60's and ended in 89 but was revived in 2005 and is still going to critical acclaim, but has gone downhill in the past 2 series, a new series is due to start so I'm hoping it picks up again. During this time of this special (2007) Doctor Who was very popular and still is but I think Ricky just isn't a fan of fantasy and sci-fi so he wrote Andy like that. David Tennant is considered one of the best actors to play the Doctor, he played the 10th Doctor (the Doctor is an alien who can regenerate and change his appearance when he is fatally wounded and so has been played by 13 different actors, the most recent Doctor (12th) was played by Jodie Whittaker making her the first woman to play the Doctor. A new series is due to start with Ncuti Gatwa set to play the 13th version of the Doctor making him the first black man to play the role.
