I think Ricky mentioned he was a bit lazy in originality with Life's Too Short, he felt like he was churning out more of the same content. As for votes? Everyone's swapped their vote to back one of the two front-runners, leaving the other two under-represented!

There is no bad acting in The Office UK. It is a more divisive show than the far more accessible After Life but on a different plain in terms of writing and direction. I found After Life absolutely appalling and I'm happy to be honest about it. Dreadful writing, far too glossy, zero nuance, an insufferable, quite frankly evil main character (Gervais as Tony) propped up and hero worshipped by one dimensional, docile, implausibly stoic simpletons; cardboard cut-out characters there simply to propagate a narrative that induces chronic indigestion. Its popularity is astonishing. It's all very surface level and nothing to think about so i think it struck a chord with the masses, something that Ricky would have retched at circa 2001. Or even 2007. Like Andy Millman, "tortured genius" who divides an audience wasn't enough for Ricky. He wanted impossible wealth and fame. Netflix were happy to oblige. The Office is absolutely wonderful. Stephen Merchant is co-writer as he was with Extras and it shows. Cannot wait to rewatch it with you, Mandy! 🙏

The Office UK is very overrated in my opinion. People like to claim that the bad acting is intentional but it just wasn’t a high budget production.

I just think start one of either inbetweeners or the office and then the other after the first one is complete. The office and inbetweeners are just 2 iconic shows that are the peak of British humour. I wonder how mandy would get on with another classic "this country" I absolutely love it and find it so funny but I think it may just be to British for her.

I know some people like it but I personally wasn't a fan of Derek at all. Don't think Ricky is a good enough actor to make it work and most of it just came off a bit ridiculous to me. The only thing with Ricky and Karl in which I don't like lol. It was tough to decide between the UK Office and Inbetweeners (I'd be equally happy with Life's Too Short but decided to go with one of those two since they have the most votes). Went with the UK Office in the end, but perhaps you could consider doing both unless you don't want to juggle too many sitcoms?

I haven't seen all of Derek, it's certainly part of a deep dive into Ricky Gervais' work. If your plan is to cover Ricky's back catalogue, then I'd start in chronological order. Oh wait, too late you've already started 🤣 The Office re-invented the mocumentry but I do think it's evolved since then. You have to remember it for its originality, it was created before all the derivative mocumentary comedies came out. I've tried to revisit it, but concluded that door's best left shut. I'll be watching with you whatever wins though. If I had to recommend a Ricky Gervais dramedy to you, then I believe After Life is his magnum opus. The Inbetweeners formula involves elements you'll find disgusting, there's no getting round that. I mean it shocked a British audience too. Life's too short is the only one to feature celebrity cameos, That's probably the most natural continuation from Extras. So, even though it wasn't as highly rated, its in a similar ballpark, and has my vote.

Man Down is an essential watch. It's by, and starring, Greg Davies, and is (very loosely) based on his own life. It's genuinely one of the funniest British sitcoms ever, but it somehow flies under the radar. I know you'd love it Mandy. Also, listen to Opeth if you don't already. 🤣

They're nowhere near as good as The Office or Extras in my view. Derek has some funny moments but it's so saccharine and mawkish. I only ever saw Life's Too Short once and it left me cold. Barely remember it really, not one I've felt compelled to re-watch. I've seen The Office UK about 15 times in its entirety. Absolute masterpiece!

Inbetweeners is brilliant. At first it just seems like filthy and offensive sexual references, but you soon realise the BEAUTY and ART coming out of their disgusting minds. It's hilarious. Extras and Inbetweeners are the two best shows of all time IMO.

Personally while I love The Office, I think you should go with something different rather than just do a load of different Ricky Gervais shows. Inbetweeners is about as different as you can get.

Can't really go wrong with any of these. Although i think it would be hilarious to see your reaction to Inbetweeners, as it is an accurate demonstration of teenage boy behaviour/language in UK and many other European countries. You would learn so many new "words" :D
