The UK has never had a fixed date for elections, although if we did that would be a good date for it. I mainly mentioned it because Stephen Fry is in it though, and it's a great film :)

To be fair, we started it by having our election on 4th July (or July 4th as American would say), AKA American Independence Day, so we can't blame them for having theirs on 5th November (or November 5th as an American would say), AKA Guy Fawkes or Bonfire Night. I'm glad you brought up Guy Fawkes as it is a story with political and religious elements, subjects that we should discuss more in these comments IMHO.

Just do all the specials at the end. It doesn't matter for storyline purposes. The one exception being Back and Forth. That is the Blackadder finale

And I don't know if you've watched the film V For Vendetta, but even if you already have, I think it's one of those where you could watch it again and understand it differently. If you've never watched it though, definitely do so and react to it. And upload it on the 5th of November, which the US have chosen for their election this year.

'Blackadder Comic Relief special' - also released after Season 3 as part of a annual charity TV event in the UK. 'Blackadder Back and Forth' - a special milennium episode.
