SAD, seasonal affective disorder. I think seasonal ass disorder describes it better though. Another month and it starts getting dark at around 3.30 here up north. I think that's why people get into Christmas so much, December would be a really dull month without it.

Yes, I don't understand it myself. My assumption was that maybe they were paying a fixed monthly membership, and then just using the service too often for trivial things. I know both of them are hypochondriacs (or hypodermics as Brian would say). But I'm not sure it works on a fixed price basis like that. You have to bear in mind that my relatives are Italian, and the truth is hard to get to. Every bit of gossip that gets through to me has come through the filter of several people who didn't understand what they heard and like Karl, filled the gaps with pure, unlettered imagination. 😅

The skellingtons were there because there is a scene in the OG movie which takes place on Halloween where the bad kids beat up the Karate Kid or chase him while dressed like that. I did not see the remake with Will Smith's little boy or the subsequent TV series/seasons based on the better of those films. It could well have been depicted in those mediums also and I wouldn't know about it. If you have not seen the original, it is a tale about an elderly Japanese gentleman who scams a young boy in to waxing his car and painting his fence for free.

"Gold Envelope" "Must be BUPA" BUPA is a private healthcare plan that you can get in the UK if you think you're too good for the NHS. My aunt and uncle were kicked out for dramatically overusing it. That's what I was told anyway. 😅 The band at the beginning had nothing to do with Talent Trek. Yes, Talent Trek is a fictional talent show, that in this universe, the local clubs bid to host, especially the final. That is the subject of this episode. The band in the opening scene are not relevant. They were just a band there for that scene. And no, nothing to do with the fruit machine either. 😅

Near the start, the machine that was stolen was a fruit machine (or slot machine or one-armed bandit. Sorry, I don't know what an American would say on this occasion). Near the end, one of the ladies, upon seeing Jerry receive his medical test results live on stage, says "Golden envelope?" with the other one saying "Must be Bupa". Bupa is a private health care company in the UK. The humour comes from the mistaken belief that those were the actual results of the medical tests and Jerry having used private healthcare (rather than the NHS) had them delivered in a golden envelope by Bupa. There is further humour derived from the fact that it is implied that the results simply say "All clear".

28:29 It's funny you asking "was she not taught to smile" because on the dvd commentary Peter starts shouting "smile you're on tele" but apparently she is a teenager and was there with her parents and then they had her introduced on stage as Bonnie LaMuff which might be why she wasn't happy being given a last name with Muff in it when her friends probably saw her on tv.😆

Yes, Brian says "shit-shaped and Bristol fashion". He means "Shipshape and Bristol fashion" of course. Do you know what that means? Bristol is a port city in the South West of England. It happens to have the second-highest tidal range in the world. Astonishingly, the difference between high and low tides is 12-14 metres. Ships that dock there have to keep this in mind or face disaster. The shape of a ship's hull, with a keel, means that if it strands when the tide goes out, i.e grounds on the bottom, it will "list" or "keel over". A captain knows his ship's draft (how deep it sits in the water), but even so, it happens. To prevent everything on board from being thrown all over the place under these circumstances, ships that come into port at Bristol have to have everything on board tidied away, secured, and buttoned up. Thus the term "Shipshape and Bristol fashion". It's been used since the 19th century, and now refers to any situation where everything is ruthlessly tidy and in its place. Yes, I am a bottomless well of useless information. More interesting facts next time! 🤗
