Fun fact: the replica chandelier they smashed was worth £6000 and they only had one so everything had to be done in one take without laughing. Director Ray Butt jokingly threated to sack Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst) if he broke and Ray himself was said to have stuffed his handkerchief in his mouth to stop himself from audibly laughing 😁 Happy birthday Mandy! 🤗🎉

I remember when she reacted to The Office and related to the character Tim Canterbury because one episode featured his 30th birthday and MCL (Mandy Cane Lane) was approaching a similar age. Now she is 49. I don't know where the time has gone.

Happy Birthday, Mandy! Treat yourself to a nice Jack Russell and chips! 😎😃 This is considered an OFAH classic and the chandelier smash at the end is legendary (and actually happened to a relation of writer John Sullivan, hence the inspiration). I do think the build up isn't necessarily OFAH at its best. It's a bit slow and I prefer the more familiar surroundings personally, but it's not bad. Patience is such a virtue with this show as it improves dramatically but I still enjoy these "cute" early episodes! The Ridgemeres are disgustingly wealthy so the "fallout" isn’t needed. The Trotters don't and won't get away with everything but in this case, I guess they do. Totally agree they should have asked for more than £350 for that job, on the basis they do it properly. It's peanuts in today's money but back in 1982 it was the equivalent £1300 today ($1750 USD) so.... quite a nice amount for a single job. The £1200 Lord Ridgemere was originally quoted was pretty insane but I've no idea the going rate for chandelier repair / cleaning! 🙃

Maybe if you bothered to learn the words and sing along, the intro wouldn't be so awkward. Anyway, some episodes have a cold open so be careful, don't go spoiling it for yourself by trying to skip an intro that doesn't exist.
