Ghostdog

A bit sad...the dead prince could be the black lord's friend.

Hanne

Oh, nice find! Now I'm hungry XD

Shadoweye

This has lead me on a short mission to find out if there exists an italian dish that is like this one, couse i knew cacio e pepe is very simillar, just without the meat, and turns out there is! Its called pasta alla gricia, and i think i know what i will eat for dinner today(also, i belive the pasta would still be creamy, even without the eggs). I could not stop myself from talking about food XD

Duke of Coffee

The Navalnia Empire is maybe aiming to weakening its neighbour's in order to conquer them more easily... of course I might be wrong but it reeks of third or fourth parties interference...

Duke of Coffee

Technically as the author had said, they have showcase their weapon effectiveness to Justin in the previous chapters thus with Arte approval, they set up a kill zone for the target to walk into with the purple cloth as a bait since someone must have info on the First Prince wanting it. Hand Culverin can fire in a long and flat trajectory with their larger bullet unlike the smaller musket ball that tends to wobble in the air while flying toward the target, and thus cutting though air, piercing strong plate armour that the poor First Prince was wearing relatively quickly. I'm worried if people get iffy with the text gore. 😜

Wrath

Damn They assassinated him because they wanted the war to continue. Artie's going to have himself a hard time.

Hanne

Edit: We'll have an explanation chapter. Stay tune

Well, that first prince was not an idiot or an incompetent, but sometimes shit happens.

Not so long ago, there was a scandal in Italy because in France, there was someone sharing a recipe of pasta alla carbonara (in French that would be pâtes à la charbonnière but no one says that) with cream and lardons. This created a reaction of italianophiles that took upon themselves to civilize the French and explain how you needed either parmiggiano romano or pecorino, and pancetta, lots of pepper (it’s in the damn name, it’s supposed to look like charcoal), egg yolks and that’s it. Keep it simple. That’s week food after a work day, it ain’t supposed to be incredibly fancy. It’s simple and filling.

Ethan Hand

Yes but then you give the hand culverin better accuracy than a musket ball so it’s a moot point. Even a Quick Look online shows that a musket shot at 50 yards will be over 9 inches off target. Up to 30 at 125 yards. This scene is just insane to me. Muskets were useful as a massed force firing in the same direction—not for assassinations. There is nothing stopping the exact same thing from happening to any of our main characters and is likely less costly than the 3 mage assassins hired to kill Lansius earlier. Additionally, intense practice cannot be used as a reason for its accuracy because every shot risks the hand culverin exploding and killing the wielder.

Hanne

Sir, there's a huge significant difference between a normal musket ball, roughly the size of a finger's diameter, and a culverin with a baby-fist (50mm) size ammunition. That's like comparing 9mm to a 30mm A-10 munition. 😅

Ethan Hand

It’s weird that the author seems to think that armor still worked when guns were introduced but includes a scene where the bullet hits a prince with theoretically the best armor possible (likely medium carbon steel) in the gauntlet then breastplate still killing him instantly. This is likely the most prepared someone could be to be shot in this era (attentive at war and in full plate likely wearing some type of magical protection) and yet they still die instantly. Anyone with a brain would understand the potential of this weapon and immediately make more. This is the death of the knight era. It is no longer feasible to wear full plate when there exists a weapon that fully penetrates and is widespread. The only solution would be to add more steel which isn’t possible and in the real world infantrymen ended up wearing only a thicker breastplate because of its increased weight. The hand culverin was not accurate to this extent and armor was still useful against the handguns that followed. Jumping straight to an accurate long gun immediately invalidates all current plate armor of the era.

Duke of Coffee

Hungry..... Anyway damn the Second Prince, Bengrieve or hell the Navalnia Empire probably sent that team to assassinate the Prince, yeah it is a pity he can't meet with Lansius.... Saint Nay is Bloody Mary confirmed. 😜 As for the pirates, they manage to pull a wool over Lansius eyes.

SunderGoldmane

Did a previous chapter reference that the king had “set something in motion” for one of the princes?

Ryan

Ah hah! [points at the dead prince repeatedly] Arms. Length. My flag-senses never fail me.

CapptainT3ddy

Great, now I'm hungry
