🕑 Added 2024-03-05 20:38:21 +0000 UTCMy friends, it was a tough battle this time, but the Sherman is finished! Except the figures, of course, which I'll paint next and wrap this video up before moving on to the vignette.
At first, I wanted to very subtly blend the upper hull with the lower portions and keep the weathering to a minimum, but then thought: Why not make it gritty like in the old days? (As in: the Tiger F13, Jagdtiger, T29, Jagdpanther)
So I mixed the Africa Dust Effects with a bit of VMS Coarse Pigment Texture and speckled it on the rear hull, left it to dry for an entire day, and then proceeded with the darker tones just like on the running gear.
The finishing touches were mainly about oil paints, especially the stains around the fuel caps. Although only one cap on each side is for fuel, the other two are for oil and water! And yes, I did the obligatory streaking from those drainage holes :) In some cases, when diesel mixes with dust, it creates that rust-like effect, so that's why some of the streaks were painted with a rusty color.
Also, the rear stack is connected to the exhaust, so I added a bit of soot on the mesh using an aibrush and a bit of oil paint treatment.
Every worn edge was polished with graphite, and once that was done, I added the stowage and an antenna made from 0.2mm wire.
It wasn't an easy model to paint! Partially because I certainly lost some of my grip on these techniques since the Puma, but probably also it's not such an easy subject, even though at first glance it might seem quite straightforward.
As I said, now I'll just have to paint the figures and wrap this up into a video. Fingers crossed the figures will be less daunting than the tank! :)

Fantastic build as usual Martin, looking forward to seeing it with figures (and base?). I have a question, would the style of Coke bottle be suitable for a β44-β45 period scene? Would they not be the classic glass Coke bottle shape with embossed branding?

Lookin good. I have a question tho regarding using tamiya putty for blankets/tarps etc. when rolling out a thin sheet of it, does using baby powder or maybe even flour work to stop the stickiness while working with it? Great product but drives me nuts getting thin sheets out of it due to stickiness. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
