Some extra work done!
🕑 Added 2024-07-25 11:46:22 +0000 UTCMy friends, here we are with a pin wash, some work on the chalk markings, and a few details painted.
In my very humble opinion, the best wash for oxide red is black or black-brown because it gives it a grimy, factory-like feeling. Funny enough, it didn't make such a huge impact here because of the intense pre-shading!
The decals were fun to integrate. I mixed an oxide red color very similar to the base coat using oil paints, diluted it down a little, and used speckling to apply this mixture over the chalk markings. This creates a subtle filter that makes them stand out less, but also adds a lot of fine texture, making them look like they were drawn with chalk over a rough surface. After letting this effect dry overnight I blended some diluted white oil paint, adding that dusty appearance. Finally, I went over each letter with diluted white acrylic and a very fine brush, enhancing that hand-drawn appearance and bringing some of that clean white look back.
I also decided to include a couple of details in a raw steel finish to enhance that unfinished factory look. These were base coated with blue-grey + red-brown acrylics with some rust oils blended on top.
There are still a few small details I need to paint and then the model will be ready for some dust effects! This time I'm going with no chipping (that No Chipping Challenge is finally happening!!!) as the photos show the real vehicle pretty unharmed (although the steel parts were often manipulated quite roughly in factories), but on the other hand, it's very dirty! Quite a lot of dust and oil can be seen in the historical pictures.

This is a great example of how painting a single colour (red oxide primer) actually involves painting multiple shades and tones etc to look realistic. 👍 As always you have done a superb job 🏆

That's mainly because I added that white acrylic on top of the speckling, but it's mostly noticeable on the large markings such as the cow on the fender, the flower and the KV tank on the side, etc :)

The transition from the photos below to the ones above illustrate your creative abilities. I can understand how the subtle filter integrated the decals, but I don't see the speckling so much.
