Some IKEA Böxes

Yesterday and today, though, I did some heavy lifting on the base, mainly the laminated sides which were a special PITA. Lining the veneer with every cobblestone and then trimming it to shape, including every gap... ugh!
In other news, I added the faux railway system made from 1,5mm Evergreen strips. You can see a hint of such a feature in the historical photos and I guess small tram cars were pretty common and useful in large factories. The remaining parts covered in acrylic putty are concrete features, and I'll be adding a few details to them as well.
Then it was time for the wooden crates. I bought a Miniart set of boxes in the past knowing it would come in handy for the Ferdinand. But because I wanted them to be "cut off" by the sides of the diorama, it was just easier to make them from styrofoam and cover the sides with plastic, employing the wood texturing techniques I learned on my facades! Making them was really time consuming but the results are worth it and it'll be so much fun to paint them! Especially with the decals provided in the Miniart kit.
In other news, the figures arrived as well! They'll be in the foreground, and there will be a few more items cluttered around the Ferdinand. So, right now, I'll finish the concrete details and start working on the accessories!

Lovely!! The figures look like they’ll be a blast to make and paint, and I can’t wait to see how this all goes!

The crates look fantastic! Very real looking!

I noticed the welder myself. Probably with a little modification the gas torch could be made into a "stick" welding stinger... I'm sure that was the method used at the time. On the other hand, that base looks fantastic.... :-)

It was the small goggles that made me look closer electric arc welding with just them on he wouldn’t have any skin left on his face or exposed skin by the end of shift 😜

Damn, that puts me in a real pickle! I'm going to make him weld the Ferdinand's mantlet cover on the factory floor :D

I pretty much copied the dimensions and the details from the Miniart set. I'll try to keep it in mind for the video!

Love the translation saying man using electric welder when it’s someone using a gas cutting torch 😝
