Finished, at last!

The DEF Model figure was pretty fun to paint, with very crisp details and everything - and good figures are always easier to paint. This time I tried a slightly different skin tone with less contrast. When I'm painting military figures, the facial features are often very "harsh" and "deep". The stronger shading IMO helps to enhance the military look of these figures. I wanted to retain the smoother feminine features with this one, so I kept the heavy shading at bay and used a more pinkish tone as a base coat.
Now the grueling video editing process begins, and then we're onto another diorama, this time from Normandy 1944!

Just joined your Patreon group. I've watched you for a long time on Youtube and am amazed at not just the quality of your work, but the realism of how your dioramas look. Is there a specific video you can recommend on how/when to use oil paints in the finishing process? Thanks, Martin.

Aw, face to face constructive comments!!

Thanks! You should've heard the constructive banter between us as I was finishing the figure. Her: "That face is too pink for my taste". Me, with sore back and tired eyes at 1 AM: "I'm not reworking that. And however the hair turns out, it stays that way. I just want to get it off the table" :D

Ha! Well, it comes down to the stylistic choices, of course :) For me, it's always a shame not to bring out all the intricate details the sculptor put on the figure, but on this one, I tried to keep everything very subtle on purpose.

Thanks! The contrasts were the most fun aspect of this diorama.

Love the painting of the figure .. and .. I have always thought that a lot of the military figures are too "contrasty" .. 23 years in the Army and three wars and I never saw anyone that .. harsh! :)

As Rick said, stunning. Always super impressed how you can have so many textures and contrasts, and it all works well together and is still really easy to "read" the scene.
