It took me a while, but...

My friends, it took me a few days to get it to this stage, because as it turns out, there was a lot of stuff to sort out! My weekend was two birthday parties in two days, in other words, it was quite horrible, but I got back to work on Monday.
The rust tones took a bit longer to finish, but I think the pale orange rust on the oxide primer adds nice contrast and visual texture. There were other rusty details such as the exhaust pipes and spare tracks... and I just found that I completely forgot how to paint spare tracks! My skills have gotten quite rusty here.
What I did enjoy, though, were the shiny metallic parts of the running gear where wheels or suspension swing arms are missing. I'll put some grease on them during the final touch-ups. Also, the fresh rust on the polished areas of the wheels was also fun. The matt rusty oil paint creates some exciting contrast with the shiny metal. Oh, the AK markers were so helpful here, both on the polished surfaces and the rubber!
What wasn't as fun was adding chipping effects on the Zimmerit. It's so textured that adding any precise chipping is very difficult, and in most cases, I resorted to these "textured highlights" on the individual tiles.
I hope the earth tones will be more fun than this. I better knock on the table because I don't need any more surprises with this project! :D

They're painted with the AK 3rd Gen metallic paints. Natural Steel for the base coat and Silver for highlights. They're so shiny and smooth!

Most of us work all week and hope not to be too busy on the weekends in order to do a little modeling. You model all week and get busy partying on the weekends. I seem to be doing something wrong. Great work as usual.

I really like those shiny bits that hold the wheels, they look like real metal. What's this I hear you don't want to spend lots of time painting the tracks, you're all about efficiency now? π

Those fresh steel surfaces look mint, what did you paint those with? All those little details in this very "sterile" underside of a tank which isn't all that detailed compared to the usual stuff on it...man...you really bring it to life

Thanks! I was looking at photos of my Jagdtiger and Tiger F13 and wondering "How in the world did I manage to paint the spare tracks like that?" Then I re-watched the videos and went "ain't no way I'm spending that amount of time on some spare links" :D

The pun pretty much wrote itself :D I might take that statement even further and say that I lost most of the grip I had 4 or so years ago. Maybe it's time to give it my best shot on the next armor model and re-learn all those "old skool" techniques!
